Smooch Review: A Pixelated Kissing Game

Smooch created by Nameless Broom, Impossible bottle is the kind of ridiculous fun you expect from a Yaoi Jam game, and it delivers in the best way possible. With its pixelated charm and goofy concept, this game isn't about depth or intense storylines—it's about mastering the art of kissing, and it’s damn hilarious doing so.

Gameplay: Simple, Silly, and Addictive

You play as Otto, a determined lover on a mission to perfect his smooching skills and sweep his man off his feet. The controls couldn’t be simpler—use your mouse to smooch your man by clicking on him or click on yourself to help calm him down. The goal is to keep kissing until your man is fully smitten, which is honestly a hilarious and low-key addicting mechanic.

The image shows two characters, one with brown hair in a green outfit and the other with blonde hair in a blue outfit, kissing in a whimsical, colorful environment. The words "Counter Kiss" are displayed above them in retro-styled text, with hearts and abstract shapes in the background. The setting is bright and playful, with a romantic, fantasy-like atmosphere.

The longer you manage to keep the kiss going, the more satisfying it becomes as you inch closer to making your guy completely head-over-heels. It’s silly, sure, but that's the point. The game's appeal is in its lighthearted simplicity—just click and smooch until your heart’s content (and your man’s too).

Art Style: Retro Vibes with Pixelated Charm

Smooch leans into a retro pixel art style, which fits the quirky nature of the game perfectly. The pixel art isn’t overly complicated, but it works for what it’s trying to do. The backgrounds are vibrant and set the mood of a dreamy, almost comical romantic world. The characters are distinct enough, with their exaggerated expressions, to make you laugh while you're helping Otto finesse his kissing game.

The character, dressed in a green outfit with a cape, stands next to a mannequin in a purple-toned room with pink and purple accents. Above the character is text that reads: "Great! Your first smooch landed on the lips. As it should. Practice makes perfect, so smooch a dummy twice." The setting has a playful, whimsical vibe with a large window in the background and abstract shapes scattered around.

What Makes Smooch Stand Out

The whole premise is just outrageous enough to make it memorable. Nameless Broom and Impossible Bottle created a game that’s fully aware of its ridiculousness and embraces it. There’s no over-the-top drama, no complicated mechanics—just pure, campy fun. You don’t get games this simple and carefree too often, and for a jam game, Smooch hits the mark in terms of providing a quick, silly experience that makes you laugh.

Final Thoughts on Smooch

If you’re looking for a deep, thought-provoking BL experience, this isn’t the game for you. But if you’re in the mood for some goofy fun where you master the art of kissing in a pixelated world, then Smooch will deliver. It’s short, it’s sweet, and it’s packed with enough humor to keep you entertained for a while. Plus, who doesn’t want to help a guy perfect his smooching technique?
